Geraldton Junior Triathlon Club
MEMBERSHIP
Geraldton Junior Triathlon Club is for children aged 6 to 16 years old. Members pay a $40 annual fee.
You can choose to be a non-member of the Junior Triathlon Club and pay $10 per event per child instead; however, they will not be eligible for championship points or end of year awards.
Children under 6 years of age may compete if all the following conditions are met:
- your child is keen to compete in junior triathlons, and
- you as their Parent/Guardian are happy for them to compete in triathlons, and
- your child will be escorted throughout the entire race by you, or another parent or adult (over 16 years of age) organised by you.
If you have more than one child competing in the junior event, it is important to communicate the possible need for child supervision to the race director before the event starts. Please note that children under 6 years of age will not be timed or championship points awarded.
The senior triathlon club also allows juniors to compete in senior events. The membership fee for a junior competing in senior events is $70 for the year, this will allow you to race in the senior competition and the junior competition for that year of membership. For the safety of the juniors competing in senior events, the junior must complete the first three (3) senior events with a nominated senior member before being allowed to compete alone.
RACE DAY
Racing starts at 8:30 AM. It is important to get to the marshalling area at Midalia’s Beach by no later than 8:00 AM for registration and equipment set-up.
Your child will be able to choose to compete in any age group week to week but must compete within their age group on championship days to earn points.
Your child’s racing equipment must be in good working order.
Your child’s cycle helmet must meet the basic standards as set down by the Cycling Council of Western Australia and must be secured firmly around your child’s head before removing their bike from the bike rack.
Your child’s bike must be in good working order and have as a minimum:
- one (1) brake system that is in good working order, and
- a bell or horn that can be used to signal the public using the public path.
Your child will not be allowed to compete unless this requirement is adhered to.
Your child must have enclosed footwear (running shoes are the suggested foot attire) while competing in the cycle and running component of the triathlon. If the footwear has laces, the laces must be tied securely before your child can continue.
It is extremely important to encourage your child to be SUN SMART while competing in the junior events. To encourage this, a hat, 30+ sunscreen, and appropriate clothing is suggested. Your child’s torso must be covered when completing the run and cycle legs.
It is also important to ensure your child has a basic level of swimming competence. As the child’s Parent/Guardian, no matter the child’s age, it is important to ensure that your child can swim the nominated distance as set out in the fixtures, in the conditions experienced at Midalia’s Beach on the day of competition.
NOTE: Beach conditions at Midalia’s Beach are generally good, with only a small swell affecting the swimming conditions.
PARENTAL ASSISTANCE
In the interests of your child’s safety, Parent Assistance is required at each event. Please see the registration desk prior to the event regarding marshalling duties. We will require swimming, ride course, and run course marshals every week. If you would like to nominate yourself for one of these duties for the season, please advise the committee.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS
Age group Club Championship points will be counted for the 3 championship days held throughout the season. Points will be awarded separately for boys and girls. Your age at the end of the season (27/3/21) is the group you will compete in.
Individuals will need to be a financial member before any Club Championship points can be counted. If an individual competes under a day licence, they will not be eligible to receive championship points for that event.
1st place = 5 championship points
2nd place = 4 championship points
3rd place = 3 championship points
4th place = 2 championship points
